It was sunny that day and for some reason I had the strange urge to go fishing. As if he read my mind, I heard my cellphone alerting me of an incoming text message. It was from Ruki.

His text read: 'Let's ride with the swans.'

And I texted back: 'Haa?'

I waited a while, but I didn't get a reply after that. Instead, I got a call from him saying, "meet me at the XXX train station." Then he hung up before I even had a chance to say a word. It's just like Ruki to do this kind of thing.

A couple days later.


Aoi just woke up from a weird dream where he was being attacked by a giant octopus. He was sleeping on the left side of the bed again. Aoi discovered a while ago that whenever he sleeps on his left side he always had bad dreams.

So Aoi turns to his right side to try and sleep again, but it seems he's still dreaming because that noisy neighbor of his is asleep next to him in his bed. This is worst then the octopus. To try waking up Aoi pinches his arm a couple times until he realizes it actually hurts. He peeks at body next to him and pinches the person's face. This earns Aoi a slap on the hand by the other who still has his eyes closed.

Sometimes when he's bored, Uruha likes to knock on the wall just to see if someone would answer. Otherwise, it's simply to annoy his neighbor next door, Aoi who doesn't go out that much. Instead, his neighbor tends to have a lot of visitors, observed by what Uruha hears through the wall. Aoi says Uruha's noisy, but he's the one who plays the guitar all day long while singing songs about meat buns or red bean paste or some sort of food item. Uruha have asked him before why he doesn't play any real songs. And the other told him his job is writing jingles for radio and TV commercials. Although, Aoi's original ambition was to be a songwriter. Guess things didn't work out. Apart from that whenever Uruha tries to satisfy himself with a partner Aoi pounds and shouts through the wall, which totally throws off his rhythm.

It's the door bell. Not Uruha's though. Maybe it's Aoi's.

Uruha puts his ear to the wall, and hears a door open.

Thin Walls

Aoi has a new neighbor who just moved in next door a couple months ago. He doesn't know much about him, expect that his name's Uruha. This neighbor wakes up at around 8. Sings in the shower, off key might he add. Turns on the stereo really loud while he gets ready. Likes rock music. Leaves his apartment after 9. And he doesn't get home before after midnight. Sometimes he gets home drunk and tries to open Aoi's door with his keys by mistake. Sometimes he brings someone home with him. And most times than not, it would be a guy. Apparently, Uruha swung that way. How does Aoi know all this? Well, he can hear everything through the very thin walls that separates their apartment units.

"Ummnnhaahh! Nnnhh..." These are the usual moans that travel through the wall behind Aoi's couch, on occasions.

Reita covers his ears, shaking his head. "I don't get how you can stand this." This golden headed fellow is a good friend of his.

I can't be mad at you for more than 24 hours. My mind would start turning and I would think up these excuses. Like maybe I really didn't like that girl that much. Maybe you were right after all about her. Maybe you did me a favor by taking her out of my hands. She was a slut just as they said. Maybe you were really trying to help me out.

Then you'd realized what you did was the wrong way. That's why in the end you'd always decide to chose me over her. As in you chose our friendship over someone who was not so special like her. Because I'm more important to you.

It was like déjà vu all over again.

I really didn't want to see it. At the hotel room, seeing you with your hair all wet, your chest exposed, your pants half undone and the girl hanging off of you. That girl, who was supposed to mean something to me, suddenly became a blur. Because all I saw was you. And I lost again.

Alright, it was how it looks. But you're not supposed to be here. At this hotel. Of all the places to be. Why are you here? Why is all this happening? It was going so well too, sorta.

Fumbling with my belt and jacket, I catch the elevator just as the doors closes. I think I almost got my foot stuck there. You must hate the 'close the door' button right now. Your stare can burn holes into it. Everyone knows that even if you press that damn button a hundred times it doesn't really work. And you were trying so hard too. I could see it. The desperate expression you had while trying to get away from me.

I wonder if this is the way she kisses you. The things she does with her tongue is kinda weird. It's too much. You wouldn't like it. She likes to bite too. Has she done that to you? I haven't seen any marks on you before. So I'm guessing not. I wonder what I'd do if I saw them on you. I'd probably tease you a bit then go off alone somewhere afterwards and go crazy. But I know if you see them on me you'd start that nasally laugh of yours and give me this kinky grin that you don't know you have. Anyway, you wouldn't be in this situation. It's not your style. To be honest you're a bit too innocent for this kinda thing.

Her nails are like claws. She's digging into my skin. And here comes her fangs again. I wish she'd stop that. But it'll be over soon. I push her back on the bed and straddle her beneath me. She brings her arms around behind my neck. While I wrap my hands around her neck. Do you know how much I want to strangle her? This isn't what I'm here to do though, so I release her.

When someone says they like you, you'd automatically ask yourself if you like them back. Yes or no would be the simple answer, but the idea of someone actually liking you can be a powerful thing. As in that theory about power of suggestion. It's like a trap you can't escape from until you finally give in willingly.



The night Uruha disappeared he left behind his black hoody over on a chair at my dining table. I didn't try to move it because I didn't know where else I'd put it. So every time I ate at the table I'd see the hoody sitting across from me. It was like Uruha was there with me, but really he wasn't. I'd try not to notice the hoody but it's hard when it's staring me in the face. Then I gave up and I would move to the couch to finish the rest of my meal in front of the TV.

Like on a normal day off I had decided to pay Kai a visit at his bar. I walked there, like usual since I didn't have my car anymore and it really wasn't that far from where I lived. Then this happened.

I arrived at the door and I saw Kai helping Aoi with a big brown bag. The first thing I noticed when Kai saw me was his eyes went wide attached with a huge smile that just didn't look natural at all. He said 'hi' to me quickly then patted Aoi on the back before returning inside. Aoi on the other hand got the heavy looking bag over his shoulder and tried to walk by me without a word. So, I called to him. "Oi, Aoi's what's in the bag?"

But sometimes it may happen that love is thrown in your life, by chance. And you're not so stupid to let it go even if you didn't ask for it. Or, at least that's what they say.


I stood across the street from my apartment building and looked up at the sky, something I hadn't done in a while. And that's when it occurred to me that the color of my apartment building resembled that of the skies. I guess that explains the name for the building as well, 'Blue Skies', and it reminded me of a song but I don't quite remember it as I tried to hum the melody in my head.

Saga, Shou, Tora, and Hiroto came out of the movie theater like any regular group of high school students, still with their uniforms, on a late afternoon. There was Nao too, but he had gone missing after he picked up his cellphone during the movie, which was also coincidently called 'Missing'. The remaining group decided to move on without wondering where the other had vanished though.

The streets had a moderate amount of people treading across them, and they walked by fairly unnoticed past all the miscellaneous shops and buildings. They kept conversing about the movie and some random stuff in between as they threaded through the streets. They walked and walked and before they knew it, they were at the park.
